Johnny's Story
Overview
Johnny G has played guitar on stage from coast to coast, North to South, Japan, The Philippines, and even Iraq and Afghanistan. His performance and studio experience is finely tuned through over 38 years of success and failure. He has performed with Jason Bonham, members of Stone Temple Pilots, Kim Thayil, Dominic Davis (Jack White), Vinny and Carmine Appice, Tony Franklin (The Firm and Blue Murder), members of Rare Earth, Vixen, Overkill, Candlebox, and former members of Slaughter, Zoso, The Wildabouts, and others. Johnny’s influences are deeply rooted in the genius of Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Keith Richards, and other greats spanning the 1950s to today. Sharpened by his formative years in 1980s and 1990s music, Johnny chose a different path to the present by serving around the world as a Marine for 23 years. Johnny brings to bear copious amounts of professional skill, maturity, consistency, worldliness, resilience, and stability to support his musical endeavors.
Formative Years
Johnny's influences span decades and genres, and you can hear it through the amalgamation of his tone, style and performance. Blues, Rock & Roll, Classic Rock, Southern Rock, Punk, Grunge, Country. It's all in there. His travels to foreign lands have greatly impressed upon him the importance of varying timbres. He has founded or been a member of several bands in New York City, Washington, DC, Lansing, Michigan, Wilmington, North Carolina, and other locations.
Near the end of his military career, Johnny attended a Rock & Roll Camp founded by David Fishof. Not only did Johnny feel redemption through music, but it validated what his gut told him from a young age: that he can absolutely keep up with the career professional musicians out there.
Current Projects
Johnny is the founder of The Essentials, which is a Rock Band that performs in the Chattanooga, TN area. He also creates original music with Broome Street Band. Johnny continues to serve by performing and writing alongside Grammy Award-winning songwriters in support of Freedom Sings USA, which provides music therapy to Veterans.
